HOLISTIC RETREAT LONG TERM CARE HOME IS UNIQUE, INNOVATIVE AND A GROWING TREND IN THE FIELD OF HOLISTIC WELLNESS

These residents admitted may suffer from a wide array of physical or mental disorders or they may simply be feeble and unable to move about, bath themselves or provide their own meals. These types of residents are considered long-term care — they will never recover or stabilize to the point where they can take care of themselves and go back home. These residents may be able to go home for weekends or short visits. In addition, many of these people, whether they are short-term or long-term residents, have health and or personal needs. It seems that the elderly is finding alternatives to the nursing home until their health gets to a point where the nursing home is the only option for care. This trend probably explains why the number of nursing home residents has not increased significantly over the past 10 years whereas the number of elderlies has increased remarkably over the last decade. Private care homes are a friendlier, supportive environment between staff and residents which produces happier and healthier residents, less worker turnover and overall generally better care. To do this requires abandoning part or the entire hospital model of nursing facilities.

The hospital model is not always best for people. It is easy for the hospital corporate giants because it’s easy to administer medications and some treatments because results can be quantitatively measured. Quantitative measurement simplifies accounting because it allows cost and reimbursement to be tied to performance standards. So-called case-mix pricing is based on measures of the time aides and nurses spend per patient. The amount of time spent caring for and assisting residents and dispensing medication is carefully documented for each resident. Under this system, sometimes residents are regarded as a commodity rather than a human being.

In essence, the hospital model is not for all people. Nursing home residents lose the opportunity to be an influence on their environm

ent which is so vital to our purpose as human beings. A holistic or “whole person” approach to nursing care provides an atmosphere where residents feel they have a reason to keep living. Dignity and self worth replace despair, loneliness, boredom and helplessness.

"Holistic" environment on a beautiful Island

Residents in a holistic environment where healthier food is being served, therapeutic treatments such as meditation, music therapy tends to live longer with a better quality of life according to research. Choice, privacy and a sense of identity are just some of the things that older people living in residential care need to maintain a good quality of life. The resident’s sense of self is developed by caring staff and therapist that work in a holistic environment where prayer, emotional and spiritual therapy is practiced.

Testimonial

I just wanted to say in all the years of trying to figure out what to do with Mom and Dad when the day comes. I had no idea that the very day I was on a health retreat for myself was the day I found this angel Dr. Roni she is truly the most loving and caring person on earth I am not kidding! That’s where Mom is going! My anxiety is over Thank You for opening your heart and your house.

“I am never alone, regardless of the dimness around me, I am still never alone. I maintain my bond with God and lightness is what I feel. There is an inner strength that allows me to go on. I have faith that all things fall into divine order for my good and for the good of all my clients and patients. “This type of setting is excellent for residents who do not want to live in a larger community setting but still require a level of assistance like that offered by an assisted living facility or a nursing home.

“The staff in this Holistic Retreat Care home are special people”
